Religious leaders rally against gun legislation at State Capitol

ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Several religious leaders from the Atlanta area gathered Monday morning in front of the State Capitol to protest a bill that could become law during this session. The bill would allow people to conceal and carry guns into places of worship, and on certain parts of college campuses.

Many church leaders are opposed to the idea of having to regulate weapons within their congregation.

"It would mean we would have to have huge signs all over the building that say 'no guns allowed,' and we would still have to check at the door to be sure people don't carry guns," said Rabbi Peter Berg of the Temple, in Atlanta.

"Most legislators I've talked to want the bill to die in committee. They don't want to vote on it, but of course many are afraid jeopardizing their NRA rating, so they're probably going to vote for it for that reason."

The bill passed out of the Georgia House of Representatives last week, and is now in the hands of the Senate.
