A Cobb County jury has convicted a man in connection to a murder and aggravated assault stemming from a 2010 assault and robbery.

A Cobb Superior Court judge has scheduled sentencing for Jesus Hernandez Perez.

Perez could be sentenced to a maximum of life in prison without the possibility of parole March 27.

He was convicted of participating in the robbery and beating death of 27-year-old Boydrick Powell.

According to court documents, Perez and a codefendant, Jose Marcelino Badillo, beat Powell to death with a baseball bat before throwing him off a balcony at the Autumn View apartment complex in Marietta on Sept. 18, 2010.

Badillo is also charged in the killing of Powell, but investigators think he fled to Mexico.

After the incident Sept. 18, Perez attempted to flee to Colorado, but was arrested for DUI in Mississippi, according to police. He bonded out before his arrest warrant for the murder was distributed nationwide, and he returned to Marietta. He was arrested on Sept. 20, 2010.

The trial began March 18. Jurors deliberated about two hours before finding Perez guilty of all charges.
