GAINESVILLE, GA (CBS46) -

Gainesville police arrested two men after a pit bull bit a child last weekend at a Gainesville pet store.

Police said Craig Wooke's dog bit David Lane, 6, in the face on March 16 at a PetSmart store on Dawsonville Highway.

The boy tried to pet the dog before the attack, according to Gainesville police Cpl. Kevin Holbrook.

Authorities said Wooke and Darin Lee Dyer Jr. then fled the scene.

Dyer allegedly pointed a gun at a customer who tried intervening in the parking lot.

Officials arrested both Wooke and Dyer.

Holbrook said Dyer has been charged with aggravated assault. Wooke was charged with being a party to a crime.

Further charges connected with the animal attack itself may be pending.

The dog was seized by animal control officers and is being held under quarantine.

The boy's mother, Michelle Lane, said last week doctors removed nine stitches from the child's face after the bite.
