West Chase Apartment residents without power for days

Posted: Updated:

For the third day in a row, some tenants living in building 305 at the West Chase Apartments in Austell have been without power.

"I bought $300 and some odd dollars worth of food and we had to throw all that away because it spoiled," tenant Afreeca Fulton said.

So Fulton boxed up most of her belongings in hopes of moving soon.

"I have a granddaughter that has to be on a nebulizer for her asthma, and without us being able to plug it in for her to breath, I mean, they act like they don't care," Fulton said.

Fulton isn't the only one that's had power problems in building 305. CBS Atlanta News spoke with one woman that did not want to be identified, but said she was without electricity earlier this month for over a week.

"It's just not acceptable. If there's an issue beforehand and you see something that needs to be fixed, it needs to be addressed," the tenant said.

Tenants also complained about trash overflowing from dumpsters and damaged rooftops with poor patch work, like a tarp blowing in the breeze.

As for Fulton's power problem, management placed her in different unit overnight with electricity, but she had to sleep on the floor and keep warm with a space heater.

So CBS Atlanta News questioned the regional manager to find out if they are addressing the issues.

"We're absolutely resolving it. If there's an issue we're resolving it. That's how we do it," West Chase Regional Manager Paul said.

CBS Atlanta News spoke with Georgia Power Thursday and they said management at West Chase must fix an electrical socket before they can restore power.
