DECATUR, GA (CBS46) -

DeKalb County police said Dominique Wilson, 18, was shot and killed after school on Thursday.

Bessie Boyer, Wilson's grandmother, said she last saw him alive when she dropped him off at Columbia High School where he was a senior. She said that afternoon she received a call he had been shot.

"Why would you take my grandbaby's life?" said Boyer.

Officers said Wilson went with his friends to the Austin Oaks Apartments on Glenwood Road in Decatur. Investigators said Wilson and his friends were outside when a light-colored SUV drove up. A passenger opened fire and the only person hit was Wilson, according to officers.

Detectives said they are still figuring out the motive. The gang unit is investigating if the shooting was gang related.

Boyer said she thinks Wilson was not the intended target. She said several people witnessed the shooting and she is convinced they can help police catch his killer.

"I love my grandson so much, and I want you to know you took something valuable from me," said Boyer.
