Smart pajamas contain QR codes linking to stories

Posted: Updated:

An Idaho man has come up with a way to make bedtime reading fun for parents and kids.  He has created what he calls "Smart PJs."  The dotted patterns on the pajamas are not just for decoration; they are quick response (QR) codes to be scanned by a smart device.

The inventor, Juan Murdock, is a realtor in Idaho and a father. When the idea of a pajama that entices kids to hear a bedtime story or lullaby popped into his head, he says he ran with it. "I don't know if it was the dad in me. I've got six kids. My wife and I have six kids and so I know how important a bedtime story is," he said.

The dots can be scanned through the free "Smart PJs" app. Each pair of pajamas has nearly 50  codes that will work on all Apple and Android products. "So then what you do is you just go down and take a picture of one of the dot groups. Make sure you only get one. Hit save."

Then your smart phone or tablet reads the book, sings the lullaby, or gives you interesting facts about different animals, depending on the code.

Murdoch said he's been selling these Smart PJ's for about three months and sells about a hundred pairs each month.

He said they're 100% cotton, and the codes won't fade when you wash them.
