A hit-and-run in Marietta claimed the life of a 55-year-old man riding his bicycle. The incident happened at 7:43 p.m. on Sunday.
Preliminary investigation showed the victim was riding a bicycle on Powder Springs Street near Natchez Trace. He was struck by what witnesses describe to police as a black SUV.
The driver of the vehicle was last seen northbound on Powder Springs Street towards downtown Marietta.
The bicycle rider was transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Marietta police released pictures of a vehicle and driver of interest. The vehicle is a black SUV, possibly a Cadillac Escalade or similar vehicle, with dark tinted windows and black wheels, which was seen leaving the NCG Cinema immediately prior to the accident.
The male driver and two children were at the theater leaving a showing of The Croods.
Investigators would like to identify and speak with the driver of this vehicle as part of their investigation.
