Report: Cobb County mom indicted, starved child to death

COBB COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

According to the Cobb County Judicial Circuit, a grand jury has indicted a mother on murder charges in the starvation death of her teenage daughter.

The indictment alleges that Ebony Berry, 36, of Smyrna, failed to provide adequate nutrition and medical care for 16-year-old Markea Berry.

Markea Berry weighed 43 pounds when she died in June 2012 at the family's home in Smyrna, according to legal documents.

Ebony Berry is charged with murder, felony murder, and two counts of first-degree cruelty to children.

The indictment was handed down March 28.

If convicted of all charges, Ebony Berry could face a maximum of life in prison plus 20 years.

She remains in custody at the Cobb County Jail on $75,000 bond.
