A Cobb County mother accused of abandoning her 4-year-old daughter on a stranger's doorstep in South Carolina could be extradited there this week to face charges.

Tongela Denise McBride, 37, of Marietta, is currently being held in the Cobb County Jail.  The child's father, Alonzo Brown, 31, is in jail in Anderson County, S.C. without bond.

The investigation began at 11 p.m. on April 2 when Roy Campbell heard the doorbell ring at his home on in Anderson's Nevitt Forest subdivision. When he answered the door, he found a young child in a stroller. Whoever rang the doorbell was gone.

Investigators got a clue that the child was from Georgia from a message written on a diaper found in her belongings. It read, "Call DFCS please."  DFCS is the Georgia's Division of Child and Family Services.

Authorities released a photo of the little girl to media outlets in Georgia. A tip led investigators to identify the girl as Zoe Brown, 4, of Marietta.

"The media was instrumental in helping us receive information that ultimately led to identifying Zoe so she can receive proper attention and care that she requires," said Anderson County Sheriff John Skipper.

Detectives tracked down Zoe's father in Anderson County, S.C.  A judge denied bond for him on Saturday. They found the girl's mother at her apartment in Marietta.

"I'm shocked. That just seems a little crazy," said Jeremy Huffman, who lives at the same apartment complex on Cobb Parkway where the child's parents live. "Personally, I don't know what kind of person that would take, because I personally wouldn't abandon any child that I brought into this world."

Both parents are facing charges of unlawful neglect of a child. The Anderson County Sheriff's Office said no details will be given on the parents' motive at this time.

Zoe now is in foster care.
