ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

A man has been arrested after authorities said he planned to expand a drug cartel into the Atlanta metro area from Houston.

Douglas F. Waindel was wanted by the Eastern District of Texas for federal conspiracy with intent to distribute cocaine and conspiracy to launder monetary instruments.

U.S. Marshals began the investigation in conjunction with investigators in Houston to locate Waindel in mid-March in preparation for the April operation.

On Wednesday, agents found Waindel at a condominium in Buckhead and arrested him without incident.

More than 22 pounds of suspected cocaine and an estimated $200,000 were also seized at the condo.

Authorities said it appeared Waindel was sent from Texas to expand the drug trafficking organization.

Waindel has no criminal history.
