Community leaders gathered to call on Congress for solutions to gun violence.
On Saturday, Councilman Kwanza Hall was among those who attended the "We Have Not Forgotten and Demand Action" event. The event was to call on members of Congress to support gun violence prevention measures.
The groups Organizing for Action (OFA) and Mayors Against Illegal Guns put the event together. The group OFA said it is a nonprofit, nonpartisan group trying to advance policies Americans voted for in 2012. Mayors Against Illegal Guns was created in 2006, and is co-chaired by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Boston Mayor Tom Menino.
They support bipartisan legislation to require background checks for commercial gun sales.
