Villa Rica man in coma after beating

VILLA RICA, GA (CBS46) -

Family of 21-year-old Chase Mayfield said he was in intensive care at the Atlanta Medical Center after they claim he was beaten unconscious by a group of three men on Friday.

Mayfield's brother, Cody Mayfield, said the beating took place early Friday outside of Stix Bar and Grill in Villa Rica.

"He was helping a friend who didn't need to drive, he was going out to stop him," Cody Mayfield said. "While he was out there, he was approached by the men and they were starting all kinds of trouble with him."

Cody and Colt Mayfield claimed the men started the fight and continued to beat Chase Mayfield even after he was unconscious.

"They just allegedly got on top and started hitting him and kicking him, and even while he was unconscious they just kept beating him," Cody Mayfield said. "He does have bleeding on the brain in multiple spots. He has a fracture on his skull on the back and one on the front. His brain's swollen, that's what they're trying to take care of at the moment."

The Mayfield brothers said Villa Rica police arrested three men in connection with Chase Mayfield's beating: Michael Baldwin, 37, of Dallas, Gregory Rainwater, 34, of Dallas, and Alvin Eugene Norris, 36, of Villa Rica. All three men have been charged with felony aggravated assault and felony aggravated battery.

Cody Mayfield said the arrests weren't the family's priority.

"It's not our main focus - it is good that they own up for what they've done," Cody Mayfield said. "But, right now, it's to get Chase back healing."
