DeKalb County detective charged in McDonald's drive-thru assault

FORSYTH COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -
Forsyth County sheriff's deputies charged a DeKalb County police detective with aggravated assault.
According to the incident report, Scott Biumi, 48, became impatient waiting in the drive-thru line at McDonald's and pulled a gun on a group of teens.
Ryan Mash, 18, and his friends were waiting for their food at the drive-thru window on April 9. The group said they work there and know orders take longer at closing. They said the car directly behind them left. The next car, they said, raced up next to them.
Mash said the driver got out and started yelling at them for taking too long.
"I was like, 'sorry for the inconvenience sir,' and he got back out and started yelling. He said, 'You don't want to mess with me.' And, that's when he put his hand on my shoulder and pulled the gun."
Ryan's passengers noticed something else.
"When he pulled his gun, his shirt moved up. I could see a badge," said Drake Thomson, a witness.
Lucas Avera said he also saw the badge.
"My heart was racing," Avera said.
"I was just terrified he would pull the trigger," said Mash. He said the driver continued to yell and then got back into his car and drove away.
The group memorized the license plate and called officers.
Mash was sitting in the driver's seat of his truck facing the open drive-thru window. The McDonald's security camera also caught the incident on tape.
Forsyth County deputies arrested Biumi Wednesday morning at the DeKalb County Police Headquarters.
Biumi has more than 20 years with the department. The police chief said he knows of no prior incidents with Biumi.
"Any type of behavior that goes beyond the scope of the law or is unbecoming of a police officer, we are not going to accept that," said Chief Cedric Alexander, with the DeKalb County Police Department.
The chief said the department has launched an internal investigation and put Biumi on paid administrative leave.
"If he can't handle his temper like that, I can't imagine what he could do to someone else," said Avera.
Biumi bonded out of jail on Wednesday and is expected in court on May 23.
