Atlanta residents complain about city sewer repair

Posted: Updated:

There is nothing more annoying for a group of homeowners in Atlanta's Morningside neighborhood than the sound of a sewer repair on Spring Valley Lane that they've had to listen to for a solid week.

Workers dug a giant hole in front of one family's home to fix the sewer line and that's when they realized there was a broken water line underground as well.

To make matters worse, no one would tell the Mayers family anything about the problem or repair.

"We've had a different supervisor every single day and no one has come to our house to give us any kind of communication," homeowner Zoe Mayers said.

What residents do know is that there is now a large crater in one yard and raw sewage has seeped inside some of the homes.

"A couple of nights ago it was the worst. I was out and I came back home and my house again smelled like sewage and there was a big puddle of water on the floor and there was soiled toilet paper all over the walls," homeowner John Benzinger said.

So CBS Atlanta News jumped on the case and questioned a spokesperson with the Department of Watershed Management on behalf of some frustrated homeowners.

"We'll look into that and make sure everyone is whole. We want to make sure our customers are whole and if there is a problem of course we will take care of it," Scheree Rawles with Atlanta's Water Department said.

City officials said the issue has been completely repaired and they plan to take care of any damage left behind.
