Police reopen Peachtree Street after package scare

ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Atlanta police reopened Peachtree Street after determining a suspicious package was an empty laptop bag.

At 7 p.m. Thursday a man called Atlanta 911 to report a black laptop bag sitting atop a trash can located at the intersection of Peachtree and Fourth streets.

The man, who only wished to be identified as Fred, said he would rather be safe than sorry.

"With everything happening, everything's heightened," Fred said.

The Atlanta Police Department bomb squad was deployed and Peachtree was closed for nearly two hours before investigators determined the bag was not hazardous.
