Two people suspected of robbing a Waffle House are in custody after allegedly shooting at Gwinnett County officers.

Police said on April 20, just after 6:30 a.m., Tavares Douglas Harris, 25, committed an armed robbery at the restaurant off Goshen Springs Road in Norcross.

Two officers passing the area noticed a person running from the Waffle House.

The description of the person running from the Waffle House matched the description of the robbery suspect.

Harris ran to a waiting black 1994 Honda Accord, which was driven by Tamari Adams.

The duo quickly fled the scene as the officers approached, according to reports.

The officers followed Adams and Harris through a red light onto Jimmy Carter Boulevard. They led the officers across I-85 and towards Rockbridge Road.

As the officers approached Rockbridge Road, the men fired multiple shots at the pursuing officers out of their back window.

Shortly after the shots were fired, one of the men threw a handgun out the window, according to officers.

The suspects fired a second round of shots, striking the first officer's patrol car.

One of the men threw a second handgun out of the window and continued to flee down Jimmy Carter Boulevard.

The chase ended behind the Home Depot at 4112 Jimmy Carter Blvd.

Harris got out of the vehicle and ran away, but was later arrested. Adams was arrested at the car.

Adams and Harris are each charged with two counts of aggravated assault.

Harris is also charged with providing a false name to an officer.

Adams is also charged with fleeing and eluding police, reckless conduct, reckless driving, speeding and several other traffic violations.

No one was hurt during the shooting or chase with police.
