Thieves steal TVs, computers, jewelry from Marietta apartment complex

Posted: Updated:

Shanay Brown and her children returned from a dream vacation to a nightmare.

Someone had broken into their home at the Spring Landing Apartments on Powder Springs Road in Marietta.

"When I walked in, I saw a boot print," Brown said.

Sometime between April 10 and April 15, someone snuck into her apartment while her family was on vacation.

Thieves cleared out her son's video game console, leaving behind a bare shelf.

They took off with the single mom's flat-screen television and jewelry as well, all totaling $1,700.

"I didn't sleep the first three nights because I'm worried somebody's going to come in here and violate me," Brown said.

A report filed with the Marietta Police Department indicates there were no signs of forced entry.

"It wasn't like the windows were broken or the door was broken," Brown said.

Brown believes someone with a key to her apartment is to blame.

CBS Atlanta News stopped by management's office, but a woman, who identified herself as a property manager Christina Cark, would not answer our questions.

Brown wasn't the only victim. The Cobb-Douglas Community Services Board confirmed that burglars stole three laptop computers from an apartment it rents in the complex.

Brown wants tighter security.

"I have my kids here. I pay my bills on time. I don't expect that to happen to me," Brown said.

Brown complained that management did not issue any letters to renters warning them about the break-ins.

Brown wants to move from her apartment after living there only eight months.
