NEWNAN, GA (CBS46) -

The city of Newnan is buzzing today after one of its own was drafted in the first round of the NFL draft.

Former UGA linebacker Alec Ogletree was chosen by the St. Louis Rams. He was picked 30th.

Ogeltree played high school football at Newnan High School.

For the people that taught Ogletree at Newnan High School, last night was special as well.

Principal Dr. Doug Moore told CBS Atlanta Ogletree was a joy to teach and be around during his days as a Cougar.

"Really a quiet individual," Moore said. "He never got any trouble and lived for Friday nights."

Shirley Wold, Ogletree's chemistry teacher, said Friday that not only was Ogletree good on the field but also in the classroom.

"He found a way to balance his demands for the field along with his academics he did great," Wold said.

Ogletree was the second Georgia Bulldog take in Thursday's draft.

Fellow linebacker Jarvis Jones was selected 17th overall.
