Architectural design service vote expected Tuesday for new Georgia Dome

ATLANTA (CBS46) -

The Georgia World Congress Center Authority Board of Governors is expected to review and vote to approve a contract for architectural design services for the new Georgia Dome stadium Tuesday.

Pending the board's approval, the contract will be executed immediately, signaling the official start of the stadium design process.

Rich McKay, president and CEO of the Atlanta Falcons, along with William E. Johnson, lead architect from THREESIXTY Architecture, are expected to be at the meeting.

Missouri-based THREESIXTY Architecture was named as the lead finalist earlier this month. The firm also designed the new New York Jets/Giants stadium.

The one-billion-dollar Falcons' stadium will feature a retractable-roof and is expected to take three years to build.

Tuesday's meeting is scheduled for 1 p.m.
