Bulldozers began moving dirt and trees Tuesday on 288 acres of land just outside of Fayetteville, as London-based Pinewood Studios prepares to make Georgia its newest home for film production.
Blockbusters like Les Miserables, the Harry Potter films, and the James Bond films have been produced at various Pinewood studios around the world.
"I can tell you, I believe it's going to be one of the best things to happen to our state, not just to our county, but to our state," said lead developer Jim Pace of Rivers Rock, L.L.C.
He said they began discussions with Pinewood Studios last fall, and began finalizing the project earlier this year. With construction having begun, Pace said they're already speaking with people about future film projects.
Barring any weather delays, he said the studio, which will feature five sound stages, should be able to host its first film production by January of 2014.
