PETA offers reward to help find person who shot dog

Posted: Updated:

Family dog Macey, a black Labrador retriever, is recovering after being shot at her Lake Lanier home.

Now People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is offering $2,500 to anyone with information on who shot her.

Her owner, Holly Redeker, said Macey disappeared for a few hours in early April. When Macey returned, Redeker said she was acting like a different dog.

"She went straight to our room, went under the bed and wouldn't come out - and that's not like her," Redeker said.

Because Macey has thick, dark fur, Redeker said she, her husband and two children didn't notice anything wrong at first – only that Macey kept biting at her hip.

"I think she just kept biting at it, and the bullet finally fell out of her, and we found it," Redeker said.

Redeker said she found a small, round buckshot, just larger than a toy BB. She said a veterinarian pointed out that Macey's skin was punctured about six times. Now she and her family want to know who hurt Macey and why.

"I guess my greatest fear is, if she was in someone's yard, they went back in their house, got a shotgun and deliberately came out and shot her," Redeker said.
