MARIETTA, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Marietta City Schools (MCS) and the Cobb Education Consortium host the MCS Engineering Design Expo, Sunday, May 5, 2013, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Marietta High School. The free event features elementary (grades 3 - 5) and middle grades (6 - 8), science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) magnet student digital research projects and engineering design challenges.

"There continues to be a need to promote STEM education, and this event highlights STEM education excellence in student outcomes for elementary and middle grades. The ongoing support from Lockheed Martin Aeronautics and other business and community partners is greatly valued," said Dr. Emily Lembeck, MCS Superintendent. "The MCS Engineering Design Expo celebrates a partnership model that can positively affect the development of STEM programs nationwide."

"The support offered by Lockheed Martin, the Credit Union of Georgia, American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Tech Matters, the Cobb Education Consortium and its institutions: Kennesaw State University, Southern Polytechnic State University, Georgia Highlands College, Chattahoochee Technical College, and Cobb County Schools are critical to developing tomorrow's leaders in the sciences and mathematics," added Lembeck.

Marietta High School is located at 1171 Whitlock Avenue in Marietta, GA. The event is open to the public.
