Fallen tree blocks major intersection in midtown Atlanta

Posted: Updated:

Georgia Power crews continued to scramble Monday morning to restring utility lines after a large tree fell, blocking a major intersection in midtown Atlanta.

The tree fell at about 11 p.m. Sunday onto the intersection of Juniper and Fifth streets. As it fell, it brought down power lines, knocking out electricity for about 40 Georgia Power customers.

"That tree fell and popped my pole in half," said Willie Walker of Georgia Power. "We had to set a brand new pole and transfer all this equipment to the new pole."

Georgia Power called in a tree company to chop up the massive trunk and remove the branches.
