Creek levels drop rapidly as rain dissipates

ALPHARETTA, GA (CBS46) -

Less than 36 hours after cresting at eight feet, Big Creek in north Fulton County had dropped back below flood stage by early Monday morning.

Flood stage is considered eight feet for the long, windy creek, which originates in Forsyth County and has green space and a walking/biking trail along much of it.

The creek typically flows at around two feet, according to a real-time chart provided by the National Weather Service.

As of 8:45 Tuesday morning, Big Creek was back to five feet and was dropping rapidly as the rain tapered off.

CBS Atlanta News will be watching creek levels all day as rain is expected to move back into the area.
