JONESBORO, GA (CBS46) -

CBS Atlanta got action for a group of metro Atlanta women who said Reverend Fred Gambrell took their money for headstones, but never delivered them.

"We went to him thinking that he was an honorable businessman and he was not," said Kim Chambers, who said Gambrell took her money.

Kim Chambers paid Gambrell more than $900 for a headstone, but never got anything.

"I've been calling him and calling him, I went by his house and he kept saying just give him two weeks, just two weeks. It was always two weeks or there was always some death in his family," Chambers said.

Chambers paid Gambrell 4 years ago. Monday morning a Clayton County judge ordered Gambrell to pay back Chambers and three others who took him to court.

Mary Lipford waited 15 months for a headstone for her daughter, it never arrived. Monday she was refunded $800.

"I am done with this waiting and everything, I want to put my daughter's headstone down," said Lipford.

CBS Atlanta asked Gambrell about the accusations against him, but he declined to speak. Before wrapping up court Monday, the judge gave Gambell a piece of advice.

"She suggested he get out of the business because he is not handling it real well," said Joann Glass, who paid for a headstone that was not completed properly.

"I just want to thank CBS Atlanta because we have been through a lot and the victory is ours," said Lipford.
