Fayette County residents complain of water odor

Posted: Updated:
FAYETTE COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

Residents in Fayette County have been concerned with a musky odor coming from their water.

Fayette County Water released an official statement on Thursday after the complaints.

The water system says the odor is not a hazard.

According to System Director Tony Parrott, it was determined that the odor is because of a reaction from chlorine and the water from Lake Peachtree.

The reaction was caused by a significant change in water temperature, Parrott said.

"The water is completely safe to drink," said Parrott.

The issue with the odor could remain for a few days until the water is pumped through the system.
