Atlanta City Councilwoman Cleta Winslow pleads not guilty to DUI

Posted: Updated:

Attorneys for Atlanta City Councilwoman Cleta Winslow spoke with the media on Thursday in regards to her DUI charge.

An Atlanta police officer stopped Winslow, who represents District 4, around 11:15 p.m. Tuesday in the area of Oglethorpe Avenue and Peeples Street in southwest Atlanta.

Winslow's attorney's read a statement on her behalf because she was in a budget meeting and couldn't be there.

Her attorney entered a not guilty plea on Winslow's behalf Wednesday.

Winslow admitted to having two drinks, but refused a breathalyzer test.

"It is not illegal to drink and drive in Georgia, it is not a crime. It's only a crime if you drink and it makes you an impaired driver. She's accused of DUI, she's presumed innocent until such time she either pleads guilty to DUI or is found guilty of DUI," said Winslow's attorney, Jackie Patterson.

Winslow was arrested and charged with DUI Less Safe, driving on the wrong side of the road, failure to stop at a stop sign, reckless driving and a red light violation.

Her next hearing will be June 11.
