ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

A southwest Atlanta couple returned home from an out-of-town trip Monday morning to a house that's been heavily damaged by fire.

A neighbor called 911 at about 2:15 a.m. Monday to report flames shooting from the home on Mt. Airy Drive near Beecher Road. Firefighters quickly knocked down the flames and searched the home.

"That's a great thing that no one was inside," said Capt. Dwayne Johnson, Sr., of the Atlanta Fire Department.

Johnson said it appears that the fire started in a bedroom. Firefighters had not determined a cause of the fire. Arson investigators were called to the scene, but had not found anything suspicious.

Neighbors contacted the homeowner, firefighters said, who was out of town at the time.
