Senate Majority Leader John McComish says he'll sponsor an amendment to a budget bill that authorizes the expansion of Medicaid to an additional 300,000 poor Arizonans.
The Phoenix Republican is bucking Senate President Andy Biggs to bring the amendment to the Senate floor for a vote. Both are Republicans.
Biggs strongly opposes Republican Gov. Jan Brewer's No. 1 priority this legislative session.
McComish said Wednesday he and Biggs have a difference of opinion.
The amendment will be offered during Thursday Senate floor session and McComish is confident it will pass. He also thinks the House has the votes for Medicaid expansion but he believes that will be a tougher fight.
The GOP-controlled Legislature has been deadlocked for weeks over Medicaid expansion. A Senate budget released Tuesday broke that stalemate.
