The Coconino National Forest has updated a map that shows which roads, trails and other areas are open to motor vehicles.
Lead planner Mike Dechter says the forest has received hundreds of comments on the map first issued in 2012. He says those comments helped correct errors mostly in signage that were fixed in the 2013 version.
He says any suggestions to open more routes or close some will have to be reviewed through the National Environmental Policy Act.
National forests and grasslands were given a mandate in 2005 to designate a system of routes open to vehicle traffic. The agencies surveyed thousands of miles of roads and trails, eventually developing the maps.
The maps can be downloaded online or picked up at U.S. Forest Service offices.
