Ducklings help speeding driver escape from police

Posted: Updated:
PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Wanted: three accomplices to a getaway in Portland.

The suspects are described as feathery, and the ringleader, who walks with a waddle, stands about 18 inches tall.

OK, so, it's not a real criminal getaway, but a duck and a pair of ducklings helped a traffic violator escape what was sure to be a speeding ticket recently.

The Portland Police Bureau posted dash cam video to its YouTube channel showing a speeding driver blow past traffic officer Mark James on a recent rainy day in Portland.

The driver was clocked at 52 mph in a 35 mph zone, so James started to pursue the speeding driver.

But before he could catch up, three waddling ducks began crossing the street, and James had to stop his patrol car.

The duck family was escorted off the road so they could swim away.

And thanks to the ducklings, the speeding driver got away, too.
