U.S. Surgeon General delivers Spelman College commencement address

United States Surgeon General Dr. Regina Benjamin delivered the commencement address Sunday to more than 500 graduates of Spelman College's class of 2013 and also received an honorary degree.

Commencement exercises took place at the Georgia International Convention Center.

Benjamin was the first physician under the age of 40 and the first African-American woman to be elected to the American Medical Association Board of Trustees in 1995.

She attended Morehouse School of Medicine and completed her family medicine residency in Macon, GA.
