SANDY SPRINGS, GA (CBS46) -

Rising waters forced local authorities to move several horses to higher ground.

The equestrian rescue happened around 4 p.m. Sunday off River Run Northeast in Sandy Springs. At least a dozen horses were moved from the stable.

The area is adjacent to the Chattahoochee River. The rising waters from the low-lying areas were threatening. Crews were called in to move the horses further north to Alpharetta.

Alpharetta police told CBS Atlanta they were asked to call in a Milton animal rescue unit.

Several rescue teams worked together using various size equestrian trailers to transport the horses.

The operation was complete around 7 p.m.
