Man rescued after retaining wall collapse in Buford

BUFORD, GA (CBS46) -

Gwinnett County Department of Fire and Emergency Services responded to a man trapped after a retaining wall collapsed in Buford along Camp Ranch Road.

The man was freed just before 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Fire crews said the man was doing yard work when he was pinned face down against the foundation wall of the house by a large piece of heavy concrete and dirt. 

During the rescue, he was conscious and is able to speak with rescuers.   

Specially trained firefighters worked to free him using air-bags to lift the concrete and cribbing equipment.

It took a little over an hour for firefighters to free him. The man was taken to the hospital for evaluation.

The man was working as part of a company that was doing repair on the foundation of the home.  OSHA was notified this afternoon by fire officials.
