FOREST PARK, GA (CBS46) -

A toddler who was in the backseat of a car that was stolen from a daycare center in Forest Park overnight is now safe in her parents' arms.

Felipe Vazquez said he was on his way to work when he spotted the stolen car he had seen on the news all morning. He said the car was parked at the intersection of Scott Drive and Holly Circle in Forest Park. He double-checked the license plate and told his daughter to call 911.

Vazquez said he didn't see anyone in the car. Officers said inside was the child who was taken from the daycare facility.

It was just after midnight Wednesday when police were called to the Playskool daycare facility at 887 Conley Rd.

Victoria Buchannon said that her car had been stolen with her 17-month-old daughter Annya in the backseat. Buchannon had just gotten off work at a healthcare facility and was at the daycare center to pick up her two daughters.

Buchannon said she got Annya first and put her in her car seat. She said she then left the car running and went back inside to get her 4-year-old daughter. When she came out, two men were driving off with her car. Her younger daughter was still in the back seat.

"She came out, she was all distraught," said Ronald Gray, who witnessed the car being stolen as he pulled up to drop off his wife who works at the facility. "She was like, 'He got my baby! He got my baby!' So she hopped in the car with me, and we proceeded down Jonesboro Road going north trying to catch them, but they got away."

At about 4 a.m., Buchannon had this message for the men who took her child.

"It really don't matter why you took the car," she said. "If you can leave my baby somewhere safe, at a corner store, at a grocery store, a church, somewhere that she can be found safe and sound, just bring her back. I don't care about the car."

At about 6:30 a.m., police got a call from someone who spotted the car on Scott Drive near Holly Circle and saw a baby sleeping inside. Police said it did not appear that she had been harmed.

After being reunited with her daughter, Buchannon said she learned an important lesson that she wants to share with other parents.

"Cherish your kids," she said. "Don't let them out of your sight. Things happen, but we're glad that she's back."

The man who stole the car is 5'6" to 5'8" in height, wearing blue jean pants, a red jacket and a black stocking cap on his head. No description was given of his accomplice.

Police planned to dust the recovered car for fingerprints to lead them to a potential suspect.
