Tyson plant reopens after ammonia leak

Posted: Updated:

A Tyson poultry plant in Cumming is back open after production was temporarily suspended because of an ammonia leak.

Around 5 p.m. Monday there was a leak at the plant during scheduled maintenance. The plant was not operational at the time.

One person was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure and has since been released.

The source of the leak was discovered and the valve involved was closed.

In April, Tyson Foods agreed to pay nearly $4 million to settle violations of the Clean Air Act, largely because of ammonia issues.
