DeKalb County police said a cab driver was found dead at an apartment complex off Northern Ave. early Friday morning.

Officers responded to Oak Creek Apartments around 2:30 a.m. Friday after reports of gunshots.

When officers arrived, they discovered a 42-year-old man slumped over the steering wheel of his cab.

The driver, who police have not identified, worked for Checker Cab Company. The cab company identified the man as Dedric Darcelin.

Darcelin suffered from a fatal gunshot injury and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Atlanta Checker Cab owner Rick Hewatt released the following statement:

"We are deeply saddened my the turn of events this morning and regret to inform the public that this was one of our independent contractor drivers. Dedric Darcelin has been associated with our company for about six years and was a very good cab driver, a genuine nice guy and extended family of the Atlanta Checker Cab Company. Our prayers go out to him and his family. In addition, Atlanta Checker Cab will be offering a $2000 reward for the capture and prosecution of the shooter in this incidence."

No arrest has been made, but detectives are following up on active leads.
