Clayton County police responded to a shooting outside at a Citgo gas station on Upper Riverdale Road and Arrowhead Boulevard Wednesday afternoon.
One person was shot multiple times, according to witnesses, and was taken to the hospital for emergency surgery. The victim died in the hospital on Thursday afternoon, according to Clayton police.
The suspect was taken into custody shortly after the incident.
Roy Manning witnessed the shooting from across the street.
"I was just coming out of the store when I heard about four shots and I looked across the street and I saw the guy when he fell down and when he fell down it seemed like the other guy put his gun over the guy and shot him in the head," Manning said.
Manning said he then spoke with the gunman seconds after he pulled the trigger.
"I just asked him was the guy trying to rob him and he said no, he just said he was talking junk," Manning said.
Clayton County resident Chuck Hall said he knows both men involved in the shooting and that they had been arguing over money and a car. He said he spoke with the gunman about an hour before the crime.
"He looked like something was on his mind and he said the next time that man come up to him that he's going to do what he's got to do," Hall said.
It's a crime that doesn't surprise people living in the area.
"It doesn't really surprise me what happened. I hope nothing bad happened to that person, but there are a lot of things going on around here because we have a lot of gang-related people and a lot of criminal stuff going on around here," neighbor Nohemi Curioz said.
