ACWORTH, GA (CBS46) -

Acworth police officers responded to 400 Bass Way regarding a house fire Sunday at about 2:37 a.m. Upon arrival, officers met with the resident JanMike Mosley, 23, who said he came home to find the front door of his home on fire.

He attempted to put the fire out with a garden hose, but the fire continued to spread.

The Cobb County Fire Department responded to the scene and took 15 minutes to control the blaze; however, the loss was extensive.

After interviewing Mosley and other witnesses, officers determined that Lamine Diaw, 34, who was staying in the 300 block of Bass Way, had purposely set the fire. He was taken into custody and charged with arson.

The property is owned by Otis Nixon, according to property records. Nixon is a former Atlanta Brave outfielder.

Diaw is being held without bond. No injuries were reported.

Anyone with information regarding this crime is asked to contact the Acworth Police Department Criminal Investigations Division at 770-974-3111.
