Child nearly drowns at Gwinnett County YMCA camp

GWINNETT COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

Gwinnett County firefighters were called to the 4500 block of Jones Bridge Circle in Norcross after a child nearly drowned.

The child, around 10 years old, may have been in the water for just 10 seconds before being pulled out by a lifeguard.

Three lifeguards assisted the child out of the nine feet of water and immediately began CPR. The child was responsive to the life saving measures from the lifeguards.

The lifeguard that pulled the child out said it was the first time he's ever saved anyone.

Firefighters arrived took the child to the hospital around 1 p.m.

The child was conscious en route to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite. 

The child was attending a YMCA camp at the location of the pool.

Firefighters were called out to a near drowning incident at the above address.  The patient was a minor child approximately 10 years old.  According to the caller to the 911 dispatch center, the child was found in the water after being submerged for approximately 10 seconds. Three lifeguards assisted the child out of the pool and immediately began CPR.  The child was responsive to the life saving measures from the lifeguards.  Fire crews assessed the patient and quickly transported the child to Scottish Rite Hospital where they are caring for the child. Any further information will be released when available.
