Widespread damage greets Marietta residents at daybreak

MARIETTA, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Trees, debris and power lines littered the streets of Marietta Friday morning after strong storms ripped through the area Thursday evening.

Utility crews on Hembree Road were working to fix downed power lines until they were called out to another location, leaving the road untended with power lines dangling overhead. The crew said another crew was on the way to relieve them.

While trees were down across the area, many people were thankful their homes just missed being hit.

"It's a miracle there's not a tree down on any of the homes around us, because there are so many trees down, and everyone's OK," said Cynthia Hardman.
