New moms have a lot to think about, and now they have to worry about something else, thieves stalking them.
That appears to be the case at the Peachtree Road Lutheran Church. Since May 1, two moms have been targeted by a thief driving a red minivan.
"I pulled in to park, I had a 12-week-old in the backseat and she was screaming so I went around the car to get her out. And it slipped my mind to grab her diaper bag out of the front seat. So, I locked my car and went inside to get my son," Carey Olson said.
Within a minute, surveillance video of Olson's car shows a suspect pulling up in a red minivan, looking into her passenger window and breaking it. He grabs the diaper bag and pulls off in 63 seconds of Olson shutting her door and walking in.
"It definitely makes you worry. The daycare is a fabulous daycare, it is our home away from home," Olson said. "It is a very scary, frustrating situation. Someone is stalking young moms with young kids. Following us into the parking lot, knowing we have our hands full getting our kids and stuff for the day."
Other moms at daycares along Peachtree Road have also reported auto break-ins. Olson knows she made a mistake, but wants to raise awareness to try and catch this criminal.
"Hopefully, stop this from happening to somebody else," Olson said. "We are busy. We have a lot to carry, but take that extra second to lock the bag in your trunk or take it in with you, even though your hands are full."
