Power returns to Sandy Springs neighborhoods after three dark days
SANDY SPRINGS, GA (CBS46) -
After three days in the dark, Sandy Springs neighbors are rejoicing – power was fully restored to their area just before 10 p.m. on Saturday.
Wendy Amato's family was one of many that relied on a generator to power a few crucial parts of their homes.
"It has been a very long three days without power. It's just been really hot and muggy and just a pain to wake up every morning and not have power," Amato said.
Amato and other families were unable to support their air conditioning systems on generators, and have been living without since storms knocked down trees and power on Thursday night.
"Upstairs, we have a fan in our bedroom and a lamp going," Amato said. "We had a refrigerator running on the generator for a while, but finally just gave up and decided to pitch everything in the fridge and freezer because it's useless now."
CBS Atlanta was at the Amato home when power finally came back on.
"I've never been so happy. I can't wait to take a shower, dry my hair, be a normal person and do laundry again," Amato said.
A spokesman for Georgia Power confirmed that power was completely restored Saturday night.
