One man is dead and another in custody after shots were fired during an afternoon soccer game in Gainesville.

According to Sgt. Stephen Wilbanks, spokesman for the Hall County Sheriff's Office, two men attending a soccer game at Tadmore Park became involved in a verbal confrontation.

Police said Saul Merdez Castillo, 41, of Gainesville, pulled out a gun and shot and killed 46-year-old Silverio Acosta.

Castillo attempted to flee the scene after the shooting, but was arrested by two Hall County Marshals who were working security at the game.

Deputies have determined the two men knew one another, but the motive for the shooting remains under investigation.

Castillo was charged with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. He was placed on immigration hold due to his residency status. Bond has not been set.
