Mets pitcher, Smyrna native to make debut in Atlanta

ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

The New York Mets have announced that pitcher Zack Wheeler will make his debut Tuesday in Atlanta.

Wheeler, a 23-year-old native of Smyrna, should have several family and friends at Turner Field.

The right-hander is 4-1 in 12 starts with a 4.14 ERA in the minors this season. He is a graduate of East Paulding High School.

He was drafted by the San Francisco Giants with the sixth overall pick in the 2009 MLB Draft. Wheeler was then traded to the New York Mets in 2011.
