ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Tropical Storm Barry made landfall early Thursday morning near Veracruz, Mexico with 45 mph winds.

The system was upgraded to a tropical storm Wednesday, becoming the second named storm of the 2013 Atlantic hurricane season.

Barry originally developed as Tropical Depression Two in the western Caribbean early Monday and moved westward toward Mexico.

The storm was never a threat to Atlanta, or the United States.

An above-average hurricane season has been forecast for the Atlantic ocean, Caribbean sea and Gulf of Mexico.

Hurricane season ends on November 30.
