Thieves on scooters steal newer scooters in SE Atlanta

ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Is a scooter gang targeting other newer scooters in southeast Atlanta?

That is the question Sinan Sinharoy is asking after his SYM model DD50 scooter was stolen from his gated parking lot and replaced with an older scooter.

Surveillance video from the Brushworks Lofts at 19 Hilliard Street in southeast Atlanta shows two men driving into the parking lot on scooters.  When they leave, however, they abandon one of the scooters they drove in the parking lot.

"I don't own a car. So, now I ride my bike everywhere or take MARTA," Sinan Sinharoy said. "It sucks. I didn't have any other real motorized form of transportation, and it really caught me off guard because this is a gated parking lot. I didn't expect to have my stuff stolen out of the parking lot."

His scooter was stolen on May 25 at 6:20 p.m., according to surveillance video. The video shows the men checking out the parking lot, and even trying to go into one of the lofts.  A few minutes later, they drive away with the scooter in the bed of a beige Ford F-150.

"I'd like to get the scooter back," Sinharoy said. "And mostly, I want other people who own scooters around Atlanta to be vigilant. Because it can happen so easy, load it onto the back of a pick-up truck and its gone.

Sinharoy has this message for other scooter drivers in metro Atlanta.

"I could have locked it up - having a scooter lock is a big time deal - and for owners to lock up scooters whenever you can," Sinharoy said.
