ATLANTA (CBS46) -

Construction began Wednesday morning on a giant Ferris wheel in downtown Atlanta.

Skyview Atlanta, which will be located next to The Tabernacle and across from Centennial Olympic Park, will offer riders fully-enclosed, climate-controlled gondolas and views of the city from 200 feet high.

An estimated 15,000 pounds of cement will be poured Wednesday for the ride's foundation and also to create the waiting/line areas. The attraction's scheduled to arrive in Atlanta in hundreds of pieces June 24 from its current home in Pensacola, Florida. A special team will then assemble it. Skyview Atlanta is expected to open to riders July 2.

Operators expect to attract up to 3,000 tourists a day.

That thrills people who work in the area, like Lamar Mitchell with Waffle House. "This is going to be a great revenue for Waffle House. It's gonna bring a lot of business and make our business develop more."
