DEKALB COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

Thursday morning, Gov. Nathan Deal received the certified indictment of DeKalb County CEO Burrell Ellis in a letter from District Attorney Robert James.

A grand jury indicted Ellis Tuesday, accusing him of attempting to extort campaign contributions from companies that do business with the county.

The grand jury returned a 15-count indictment that included charges of extortion, theft and fraud.

The governor must now wait 14 days before forming the three-person commission that will study whether or not to suspend Ellis from his office.
