Courts issue warrant for bond-jumping car broker

Posted: Updated:

A car broker, facing theft and fraud charges, is now a wanted man in three different metro-Atlanta counties.

Johnny Cummings, who is accused of promising cars to customers, taking their money and never delivering, has jumped bond in DeKalb, Cobb and Fulton Counties.

He was arrested in all three counties for theft and fraud charges, but according to two different bail-bond companies, Cummings has missed court dates in each jurisdiction.

DeKalb and Cobb counties have issued warrants for Cummings's arrest.

Matthew Smalls, a bondsman who put up money to bail out Cummings on the Fulton County charges, must cover the county the full amount of his bond.

"We have to pay off the whole bond, which is over $50,000," Smalls said. "Johnny's a fugitive right now. He has bounty hunters looking for him."

Jewel Cummings, the car broker's ex-wife, said she has only seen him sporadically, when they broke up in 2004.

"I don't call him. He doesn't call me," Cummings said.

When asked about Cummings's character, his ex-wife answered "he's the father of my child. I can't speak to his business acumen."

Johnny Cummings now owes at least $10,000 to one customer, and more than $100,000 in total to two bond companies.

"A lot of people are looking for him. No one is helping turn him in. We have to go look for this guy now," Smalls said.
